Efficient and sustainable management of nutrients and carbon

Gestione efficiente e sostenibile dei nutrienti e del carbonio
Focus: Digestate and efficient nutrient management

The main objective of this action is to test innovative and sustainable practices for Nutrient Management (digestate), the carbon stock management (minimum tillage) and integrated control with drone.

Monitored effects on key environmental sectors: water and atmosphere to ensure its environmental sustainability

Target groups

Farmers

Aims

Nutrients management

The model provides a managerial format divided into:

Anaerobic digestion of wastewater and pretreated fractions;

  • solid-liquid separation
  • export of the solid fraction in not livestock contexts (supply chain production, organic, viticulture)
  • use of liquid fraction within the livestock production environment with reduced use of urea
  • using innovative practices (injection, micro fertigation).
  • Any of the separate denitrification still excess fluid with high efficiency system (demo field).

During the tests will be collected data about the environmental impact data (emission, impact on the water), the consumption of water and energy used, as well as all data concerning the operations necessary for crops (agronomic operations performed, amount of used fertilizers and crop protection products, amount of hose employed, etc.).

All data will be used for calculating the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the production chain.

Carbon management

The nutrient management practices will be supported in carbon management practices (minimum tillage to reduce the oxidation of organic matter and maintain the carbon stock, while reducing the production energy inputs).

Integrated control with drones

integrated control with distribution of Tricogrammatidi (parasitoids oofagi) with drone to contain the damage by corn borer and reduce the environmental impact of agrochemicals.

The comparison will be made between demofield treated with antagonist distributed with drone and standard practices.

The production will be considered in terms of quantity and quality, expenditure items (energy and fuel) as well as the quantities of pesticides used and avoided.
